Milliken’s installation of its Mash Up waste reducing carpet collection at one of its own material suppliers’ offices provides the perfect example of how this innovative initiative can quickly transform a space.
Vita Group’s Caligen plant in Accrington, Lancashire supplies the polyurethane foam for Milliken’s renowned WellBAC® carpet tile cushion backing. When the company was looking to replace the flooring for its plant offices, they were looking for something more comfortable and uplifting. The Milliken team proposed an installation of its new Mash Up carpet tile concept.
With Vita sharing similarly strong sustainable credentials as Milliken, the opportunity to carpet their offices with first quality carpet that would have otherwise gone to waste was a welcome proposition.
Comprised of excess carpet tiles generated from production overruns, new design developments, excess inventory and sample materials, the Mash Up concept provides a budget-friendly way to benefit from a premium floor covering while helping to reduce carpet tile waste.
An idea sparked by one of Milliken’s environmentally conscious quality team, the Mash Up Collection includes six colour palettes of excess carpet tiles to choose from, and a multi-coloured range of carpet planks.
Based just a short distance from its carpet production plant in Wigan, the Milliken team were able to quickly deliver, sort and install the Mash Up carpet tiles at Caligen’s offices. As a batchless collection of the random tiles, they could be installed quickly and easily, instantly transforming each of the spaces.
Choosing the blue colour palette to reflect the Vita Group’s brand identity, combined with some tiles from the grey colour palette, the Mash Up carpet was installed throughout the company’s boardroom, offices and corridor spaces.
Thanks to Caligen’s own 90% recycled polyurethane material, their new carpet delivers a host of performance benefits for their newly floored offices. The cushion backing absorbs wear from foot traffic and includes an extended wear warranty.
Its sound absorbing properties also help to reduce noise keeping their offices quieter and more peaceful to work in. The cushion backing also meets the brief for a more comfortable and uplifting space!
