When Czechian-based insurance business Renomia was creating a new office space the well-being and comfort of Remomia’s employees was central to the design. The new workplace needed to be an inviting and productive space that would allow employees to thrive. The design team chose to incorporate Milliken’s biophilic inspired flooring, bringing the outside in and boosting comfort, creativity and productivity.
Psychology of place
The built environment has the power to shift mood and inspire motivation with carefully thought-out design our external environment can shape our emotions and behaviours. By working backwards, choosing the feelings and emotions you want to inspire within occupants, letting this inform design decisions can help create workplaces that better align with both the psychological and physical needs of occupants whilst fostering a real sense of place.
The power of biophilic design
Meaning the love of nature, anything that brings the outside in falls under biophilic design. Selecting materials that reflect the gentle colour transitions found in the natural environment helps bring a calmness while refreshing pops of colour energise the space, helping to create a balanced environment that inspires both creativity and productivity.
For the floor coverings the design team chose Milliken’s Seascape modular carpet from its Coastline collection. The Coastline collection takes its inspiration from nature, reflecting the landscape, colours and textures of coastal shorelines making it the perfect choice for creating a fresh and natural looking aesthetic.
Seascape’s rich rippling textures reflect the gentle ebbing and flowing of the sea as it reaches the land adding a sense of movement to the floor. Specified in Crush, the colours shift from warm sandy tones to a rich mossy green. Flooding seamlessly throughout the floorplate, the carpet tiles’ tufted construction provides a textural element to this inviting interior.
In the spacious reception area, the carpet co-ordinates beautifully with the natural wood backdrop and storage units, while the vibrant yellow of the soft seating fabrics offer a contrasting pop of colour.
Seascapes Transitions in the Crush/Maritime offer additional dimension by gradually incorporating aqua tones into the meeting rooms.
