A new expression of calm, crafted through design

Quiet Statement, a new modular carpet collection for Milliken, celebrates the beauty of restraint — where clean architectural lines, subtle references to brickwork and soft, tactile textures come together to create spaces of calm confidence.

Barely-there patterns introduce depth and warmth without distraction, allowing interiors to feel composed, refined and quietly expressive. Designed for clarity and balance, this is a collection where simplicity does the talking — and design speaks with quiet confidence.

Milliken’s brand new capsule floor tile collection ‘The Sisal Edit’ draws its inspiration from the tactility and textures of plant fibres, in particular: sisal, seagrass, and jute. The collection is led by a natural aesthetic, neutral colours and biophilic design, but interpreted for more practical use in heavy wear environments such as the workplace or hospitality interiors.

Workplace well-being is an increasingly important consideration in office design, with building standards such as WELL being centred on environments that support occupant health & well-being. With this, biophilic design has become more prevalent aiming to introduce calming, nature-inspired elements into a workplace. Flooring inspired by natural timber and stone aesthetics aligns well with the shift towards wellness-focused spaces. However, with concerns over rising noise levels and their impact on employee comfort and productivity, there's uncertainty over the suitability of hard flooring in office environments. When it comes to commercial flooring with sustainable attributes, it doesn’t get much better than Milliken’s much loved Major Frequency modular carpet collection. Now in its 2^nd generation, the collection has recently been streamlined to focus on the Distortion design featuring an extended and refreshed palette of 25 colours.

Alarmingly, global material extraction has surpassed 100 billion tonnes, more than three times as much than 50 years ago. Without much needed change this is set to rise by a further 60% by 2060[i]. The WELL Building Standard (WELL) combines design and construction best practices with proven, evidence-based strategies for improving health and wellness. According to WELL, this is the "first standard of its kind that focuses solely on the health and wellness of building occupants". The standard features 10 core concepts and clearly maps out the preconditions that are required and optimisations that are encouraged for each facet.

With concern over the climate crisis growing, it’s more important than ever to adopt circular strategies that reduce environmental impact and support our planet. Milliken’s N/XT Life™ Circularity programme works with several partners across Europe to facilitate the take back and reuse of carpet tiles. This case study explores how re-use specialists Orak recover, re-condition and re-install Milliken carpet tiles, giving them a second life.

Major Frequency 2.0 represents a refined evolution and progression of the collection initially introduced by Milliken in 2020. The floor plank collection is designed and manufactured in-house from the company’s UK HQ in Wigan. Despite a limited launch during the year of lockdown Major Frequency has proved to be a global bestseller.
